13th February, 2016 (With apologies, election stuff)
by Brendan Strong
Why should we blame them that they bang their heads
Against lamposts – again and again. Flapping in
The breeze – the sound of board against hollow steel,
The wind of same proposing policies:
Had they but resources equal to desire?
Escaped cable ties scurry up gutters on the breeze,
No longer anchoring the plackards’ wheeze
Of “Vision statements” (impoverished aphorisms)
Airbrushed headshots pealing over carparks and fields
Are they really high up and humane and serious?
Why, what could they do, being who they are?
Are they puppets or masters of an ambivalent electorate?
